The Theory Test is made up of a multiple choice part and a hazard perception part and you will need to be successful in both parts to pass it. The multiple choice part is delivered using a touch screen computer and the hazard perception part records your responses through the use of a computer mouse. Once you have passed the Theory Test you can then apply to take your Practical Driving Test.

Part 1 - Multiple Choice Before the test starts you will be given instruction on how the test works and you can choose to go through a practice session to get used to it. At the end of the practice the real test will begin and lasts for just under an hour. A question and several answer options will appear on screen and you select the correct answer to the question by touching the screen. Some questions have more than one answer. Part 2 - Hazard Perception After a short break you'll be shown a brief tutorial video clip about how the hazard perception works. This part of the test is also delivered on a computer but you respond by clicking the mouse button. You'll be presented with a series of video clips which feature everyday road scenes. In each clip there'll be at least one developing hazard, but one clip will have two. To achieve a high score you'll need to respond early to the developing hazard, the maximum score being five. The pass marks are 43 out of 50 for the multiple choice and 44 out of 75 for the hazard perception. Use Theory Test Pro to learn and practice the theory test.
