Before you start learning to drive you must hold a valid provisional driving licence for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Normally, for car drivers, 17 is the minimum age a provisional licence, but you may apply for it up to three months before your 17th birthday.

You will still have to wait until your 17th birthday before you can take your theory test.
